。古本の表紙と切り紙細工のマリオネットを１コマづつストップモーションで撮影していく
cut-out animation手法を使った彼の作品は“不気味さと可愛さの完璧なバランス”（ The
Huffington Post紙） “切なくも美しい”(L Magazine誌)等と評されている。

に、儀式的な独特のライブパフォーマンスでツアーを重ね、ヨーロッパの主要フェスティバル
に数多く招かれてきた。
昨年秋「RISING. – A Requiem For Father Murphy」をリリース、Father Murphyとしての活動
には終止符を打つも、”マーフィー神父”のリアリティーはその死によって確約され、その魂
は再生(Rising)する、、、、”
本作「Paper Circus」以外にもディピエッロ監督作品の多数に音源を提供している。
彼らの仄暗い異端派中世カソリシズムの香りのする典礼音楽とインダストリアル、ゴス、エレ
クトロニカの融合した独特の音楽性は「ニューイタリアンオカルトサイケデリア」とも言えよ
う。
上映会後はそんな彼らによる“Dark & Gothic Italian Folklore”DJセットで幻想的な夜をお過ごしください。

Luca Dipierro is an animator and illustrator born in Italy and living in the US. His cut-out animations, filmed in stop
motion with marionettes made out of paper and old book cloth, have been called “a perfect balance between creepy
and charming” (The Huffington Post) and “sad and beautiful” (L Magazine). His work has been shown in theaters,
galleries, and film festivals in the USA and Europe, and appears regularly on book and record covers. In 2014,
Dipierro started touring with the show Paper Circus, a screening of his animations with a live soundtrack that he
performs together with the band Father Murphy. Dipierro is the author of the art zine Das Ding, published by The
Walk; the illustrated novel in cards A Wooden Leg (The Walk, 2014); the collection of short prose Biscotti Neri
(Madcap, 2011); and numerous art booklets. He is currently working on his first animated feature, The Cadence.
Father Murphy is the sound of the Catholic sense of Guilt. A downward spiral aiming at the bottom of the hollow, and
then digging even deeper.Through the years the band became one of the most peculiar musical entities coming out
of Italy, part of that community that Simon Reynolds started to call the new “Italian Occult Psychedelia”.
The duo, well known for their really intense live shows, something in between a ritual and an artistic performance,

furiously performed all over Europe, playing all the most important festivals (Le guess who?, Liverpool Psych Fest,
Incubate, Supernormal, …), toured North America with the likes of Deerhoof, Dirty Beaches, Iceage and Xiu Xiu and
recently joined Jarboe on stage for a tour to promote a collaborative EP.
Their album titled “Rising. A reqiuem for Father Murphy” was announced as their final. It was released in April 2018
by Avant! Records and Ramp Local.
